Summary and Scope

Bridgeway Dynamics is recruiting on behalf of a client for an experienced Field Inspector specializing in aerial transmission and distribution (T&D) utility inspections using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV/drone) technology. The selected candidate will be embedded within an active, high-volume production program and will conduct aerial inspections of utility poles and associated powerline infrastructure across designated sites throughout the state of Alabama, with an initial focus on the Mobile area.

This is a Scope of Work (SOW) engagement projected at approximately 4,000 pole inspections over a four (4) week period. The inspector is expected to maintain a minimum production rate of 200 poles per day. Compensation is structured on an individual per-inspector basis. A company vehicle will be provided. The engagement is full-time and requires an immediate start date.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct aerial (UAV) inspections of transmission and distribution utility poles, powerlines, and associated infrastructure at a production rate of no fewer than 200 poles per day.
  • Operate a DJI Mavic 4 Pro (provided) safely and in compliance with all applicable FAA regulations, including Part 107 requirements.
  • Navigate to multiple designated inspection sites across Alabama, traveling as directed (up to and including adjacent cities and counties).
  • Capture high-quality aerial imagery and data for each pole asset; document findings accurately in required formats.
  • Identify and flag structural anomalies, hazards, equipment deficiencies, or conditions requiring follow-up.
  • Maintain all required flight logs, inspection records, and daily production reports.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety protocols, utility industry standards, and site-specific requirements.
  • Submit completed inspection data and imagery within required turnaround timelines.
  • Pass and maintain compliance with a thorough background check prior to mobilization.

Skills and Specifications

  • FAA Part 107 Certification & License: Must be current, valid, and in good standing at time of application.
  • UAV Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to operate commercial drones (DJI platform preferred) in varied field conditions and GPS-limited or constrained environments.
  • T&D Inspection Knowledge: Working familiarity with transmission and distribution pole and line infrastructure, asset identification, and condition assessment.
  • Production Discipline: Proven ability to consistently meet or exceed high-volume daily inspection targets (200+ poles/day) while maintaining data quality.
  • Data Collection & Reporting: Competence in capturing, organizing, and submitting aerial imagery and inspection data in field software or client-specified tools.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to independently adapt flight plans and logistics based on site access, weather, or operational changes.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication with project managers and client representatives.
  • Safety Culture: Commitment to compliance with FAA, OSHA, and utility-industry safety standards at all times.

Required Education and Experience

  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate – current and valid (copy required with application).
  • Proof of active drone/UAV liability insurance in the applicant’s name (required prior to mobilization).
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience conducting T&D utility pole and powerline aerial inspections in a production-based environment – this is a strict requirement; applicants without this specific background will not be considered.
  • Verifiable history of meeting high-volume production goals in a utility inspection program.
  • Current, valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (company vehicle provided).
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant technical training, military service, or vocational credentials in UAV operations or electrical utility work preferred.

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in variable weather conditions (heat, humidity, rain) typical of Alabama.
  • Lift up to 75 pounds or more on occasions
  • Frequent standing, walking on uneven or unprepared terrain, and maneuvering around utility and infrastructure sites.
  • Ability to carry and transport UAV equipment, batteries, and associated gear (up to 30 lbs).
  • Visual acuity sufficient to operate UAV equipment, monitor live video feeds, and assess infrastructure imagery.
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle for extended periods across state routes and rural roads.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily outdoors at utility and powerline infrastructure sites across the state of Alabama. The inspector will encounter varied terrain, active roadways, right-of-way environments, and utility corridors. The role requires daily travel between inspection sites and may involve early start times to maximize production windows. Site conditions may include high-traffic areas, elevated noise levels, and exposure to electrical infrastructure. All work must be performed in compliance with applicable safety standards and client-site rules.

Travel

This position requires 100% travel within the state of Alabama. The inspector will operate across designated sites statewide, with an initial base of operations in the Mobile, Alabama area. Daily travel between inspection sites – including adjacent cities, counties, and rural corridors – is expected and integral to meeting production targets. A company vehicle is provided for all work-related travel. Candidates must be prepared to mobilize to initial assignment locations upon hire.

Work Authorization

-Must be authorized to work in the United States.

-Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).

-Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, and background check upon accepting a conditional offer of employment.

-Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
